When Crippen Hurd was born on 28 October 1727, in East Haddam, Middlesex, Connecticut, United States, his father, Robert Lane Hurd, was 34 and his mother, Elizabeth Crippen Williams, was 28. He married Mary Archer on 18 January 1750, in East Haddam, Middlesex, Connecticut, United States. They were the parents of at least 4 sons and 6 daughters. He registered for military service in 1780. He died on 26 August 1821, in his hometown, at the age of 93, and was buried in Connecticut, United States.

1781 · British Forces Capture Fort Griswold

The capture of Fort Griswold was the final act of treason that Benedict Arnold committed. This would be a British victory. On the American side 85 were killed, 35 wounded and paroled, 28 taken prisoner, 13 escaped, and 1 twelve year old was captured and released.

1800 · Movement to Washington D.C.

While the growth of the new nation was exponential, the United States didn’t have permanent location to house the Government. The First capital was temporary in New York City but by the second term of George Washington the Capital moved to Philadelphia for the following 10 years. Ultimately during the Presidency of John Adams, the Capital found a permanent home in the District of Columbia.
