1847 · Casino Theatre (Copenhagen)

The Casino Theatre was built as an entertainment center by Georg Carstensen but was converted into a theatre in 1848. After many years of never gaining popularity, it was closed in 1937 and demolished in 1960.

Name Meaning

German:1. habitational name for someone from a place so named in Brandenburg or from a shortened form of any of several compound names with Butzen. 2. in Swabia possibly a topographic name from Middle High German bütze ‘well’, ‘puddle’ (from Latin puteus), with -en indicating the oblique case (bī dem butzen).
