1883 · Mining Boom

Age 23

In 1883, there was a mining boom in Northern Ontario when mineral deposits were found near Sudbury. Thomas Flanagan was the blacksmith for the Canadian Pacific Railway that noticed the deposits in the river.

Irish: reduced Anglicized form of Gaelic Ó Coinn ‘descendant of Conn’ ( see O'Quinn ). This is the name of several families in Ulster and counties Clare, Longford, and Mayo.
