Jacob Elsworth Graham was born on 8 September 1870, in Oskaloosa, Mahaska, Iowa, United States as the son of Henry Graham and Sarah Farr. He married Kezah Elizabeth Lewis from 7 May 1889 to 31 December 1890, in Gering, Scotts Bluff, Nebraska, United States. They were the parents of at least 4 sons and 3 daughters. He lived in Wheatland, Platte, Wyoming, United States in 1920. He died on 28 October 1953, at the age of 83.

1872 · The First National Park

Yellowstone National Park was given the title of the first national park by the U.S. Congress and signed into law by President Ulysses S. Grant. It is also believed to be the first national park in the world.

1884 · There is now a Capital Building

The capitol building in Des Moines originally had a budget of $1,500,000 but complications arose because of the need of a redesign. The building was dedicated on January 17, 1884, but it wasn’t completed until 1886. On January 4, 1904, a fire started and swept through the areas that housed the Supreme Court and Iowa House of Representatives. A major restoration was performed and documented, with the addition of electrical lighting, elevators, and a telephone system. By the early 1980s, the sandstone exterior of the Capitol had started deteriorating and prompted the installation of canopies to protect pedestrians from falling rubble. The entire reconstruction process took around 18 years to complete.

1896 · Plessy vs. Ferguson

A landmark decision of the U.S. Supreme Court upholding the constitutionality of racial segregation laws for public facilities if the segregated facilities were equal in quality. It's widely regarded as one of the worst decisions in U.S. Supreme Court history.

History: The surname Graham was taken to Scotland at the beginning of the 12th century by the Norman baron William de Graham, holder of the manor of Grantham in Lincolnshire, from whom many if not all modern bearers are probably descended. The chief of Clan Graham is the Duke of Montrose.
