When Hans Buergi was born on 12 May 1624, in Oberwangen, Thurgau, Switzerland, his father, Uli Bürgi, was 34 and his mother, Barbara Lütenegger, was 30. He married Catharina Straessler on 20 September 1646, in Dussnang, Thurgau, Switzerland. They were the parents of at least 7 sons and 4 daughters. He died on 14 August 1684, in his hometown, at the age of 60, and was buried in Dussnang, Thurgau, Switzerland.
