Gertrud Nilsdotter was born on 18 December 1695, in Öja, Gotland, Sweden. She married Jacob Larsson on 17 November 1717. They were the parents of at least 3 sons and 5 daughters. She died in 1796, in her hometown, at the age of 101.

1700 · The Great Northern War
By 1658, Sweden had become a great power in northern Europe. The Great Northern War from 1700 through 1721 resulted in the loss of land amassed by Sweden in areas such as Germany, Norway, and Denmark. Nearly 200,000 Swedes lost their lives due to the war while Sweden lost much of its dominance in the Baltic Region.

from gēr, gār ‘spear’ + þrūþ ‘strength’; the name of two famous 13th-century nuns of the Cistercian Abbey of Helfta near Eisleben, whose spiritual writings had a great influence.
