When Johannes Bischoff was born on 19 July 1771, in Spiez, Bern, Switzerland, his father, Christen Bischoff, was 26 and his mother, Magdalena Fahrni, was 27. He married Barbara Müller on 6 December 1805. They were the parents of at least 5 sons and 4 daughters. He died on 2 April 1843, in his hometown, at the age of 71, and was buried in Spiez, Bern, Switzerland.
