When Friedrich Kiener was born on 15 April 1834, in Habstetten, Bolligen, Bern, Switzerland, his father, Bendicht Kiener, was 32 and his mother, Anna Stämpfli, was 32. He married Elisabeth Reber on 14 January 1859, in Kirchberg, Bern, Switzerland. They were the parents of at least 5 sons and 2 daughters. He died on 19 August 1921, at the age of 87.
