When James Wilson McAllister was born on 22 July 1848, in Macon, Bibb, Georgia, United States, his father, William W. McAllister, was 21 and his mother, Elizabeth Cartwright, was 18. He married Margaret M. Knight on 16 December 1875, in Upshur, Texas, United States. He lived in District 909, Terrell, Georgia, United States in 1860 and Justice Precinct 3, Upshur, Texas, United States for about 30 years. He died on 23 February 1911, in Upshur, Texas, United States, at the age of 62, and was buried in Soules Chapel Cemetery, Gilmer, Upshur, Texas, United States.

1850 · Compromise of 1850

The United States Congress passed a package of five separate bills in an attempt to decrease tensions between the slave states and free states. The compromise itself was received gratefully, but both sides disapproved of certain components contained in the laws. Texas was impacted in several ways; mainly, the state surrendered its claim to New Mexico (and other claims north of 36°30′) but retained the Texas Panhandle. The federal government also took over the public debt for Texas.

1861

Civil War History - Some 11,000 Georgians gave their lives in defense of their state a state that suffered immense destruction. But wars end brought about an even more dramatic figure to tell: 460,000 African-Americans were set free from the shackles of slavery to begin new lives as free people.

1865

Abraham Lincoln is assassinated by John Wilkes Booth.
