When William Dunlap was born in 1760, in South Carolina, British Colonial America, his father, William Dunlap Sr, was 26 and his mother, Hannah Ann Cape, was 22. He married Nancy Waldrop on 7 March 1787. They were the parents of at least 3 sons and 5 daughters. He lived in Laurens, South Carolina, United States in 1790 and Hopkinsville, Christian, Kentucky, United States in 1810. He died on 2 July 1835, in Crawford, Illinois, United States, at the age of 75, and was buried in Hardinville, Crawford, Illinois, United States.

1776 · Battle of Sullivan's Island

On June 28, 1776, the Battle of Sullivan's Island takes place on Sullivan's Island, South Carolina. Since it is so close to Charelston, the battle is sometimes referred to as the First Siege of Charleston. This is the first time that the Americans had a victory against a land and sea attack by the British.

1781 · The First Constitution

Serving the newly created United States of America as the first constitution, the Articles of Confederation were an agreement among the 13 original states preserving the independence and sovereignty of the states. But with a limited central government, the Constitutional Convention came together to replace the Articles of Confederation with a more established Constitution and central government on where the states can be represented and voice their concerns and comments to build up the nation.

Name Meaning

Scottish: habitational name from a place near Kilmarnock named Dunlop, from Gaelic dùn ‘fort’ + possibly lápach ‘muddy’. The traditional pronunciation places the stress on the second syllable, although nowadays it is usually placed on the first.
