When Nils Andersen Mygaard was born on 15 May 1816, in Jostedal, Sogn og Fjordane, Norway, his father, Anders Nilsen, was 28 and his mother, Benthe Olsd Nigard, was 26. He married Gjertrud Rasmusdotter on 3 July 1843, in Jostedal, Sogn og Fjordane, Norway. They were the parents of at least 1 daughter. He died on 26 August 1882, in his hometown, at the age of 66.
