He married Ruth Peyton on 10 April 1784, in Lincoln, Kentucky, United States. They were the parents of at least 3 sons and 7 daughters. He died on 6 April 1825, in Abingdon, Washington, Virginia, United States, at the age of 74, and was buried in Lancaster, Garrard, Kentucky, United States.
