He married Elsa Torkelsdatter Bjørnestad on 26 June 1735, in Tonstad, Sirdal, Vest-Agder, Norway. They were the parents of at least 3 sons and 6 daughters. He died in 1757, in his hometown, at the age of 55, and was buried in Sirdal, Vest-Agder, Norway.
