When Lars Sørensen was born in 1654, in Ås, Akershus, Norway, his father, Søren Toresen, was 40 and his mother, Aase Andersdatter, was 25. He married Marte Pedersdatter Ingeborgrud on 12 October 1697. They were the parents of at least 2 sons and 2 daughters. He died in 1741, in Oppsal, Nes, Akershus, Norway, at the age of 87.

1685 · Norway Church

The State Church of Norway passed a law which required ministers to keep a written record of all baptisms, marriages, burials.

1700 · Norwegian calendar change

1n 1700 Norway changed from the Julian Calendar to the Gregorian Calendar. The day after 18 Feb in the Julian Calendar became 1 March in the Gregorian calendar.

1736 · Confirmation & education

Law of 1736 legally established Confirmation in the Lutheran Church which led to organized education for all children. These became important records which the Pastor kept.
