He married Adelaide Jane Gilliland on 31 August 1865, in Leeds and Grenville, Ontario, Canada. They were the parents of at least 4 sons and 1 daughter. He lived in Watertown, Jefferson, New York, United States in 1855 and Caroline Island, Line Islands, Kiribati in 1904. He died on 24 February 1904, in Ontario, Canada, at the age of 64, and was buried in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
