Jakob Maag was born on 20 September 1618, in Bachenbülach, Zürich, Switzerland as the son of Hans Maag and Anna Maag. He married Verena Meyer on 24 November 1640. They were the parents of at least 5 sons and 6 daughters. He died on 16 March 1698, in his hometown, at the age of 79, and was buried in Bülach, Zürich, Switzerland.
