Name Meaning

Altered form of French (Normandy) Leheup, itself a variant of Lahuppe, from huppe ‘hoopoe’ + the definite article la, a nickname based on this bird's crest or cry (see also Huppe ). The surname Lahue, possibly of different origin, is also found in France, where it is, like the surnames Leheup and Lahuppe, rare. Compare Lehew .

History: Moses (Moise) Deforest Lahue, born in 1838 in VT, was a son of Pierre (Peter) Lague from QC.
