When George Pierce Bartlett was born on 10 January 1794, in Jefferson, Kentucky, United States, his father, James Bartlett, was 33 and his mother, Rachael Pierce, was 25. He married Fanny McQuaid on 15 August 1821, in Shelby, Kentucky, United States. They were the parents of at least 5 sons and 3 daughters. He lived in Montgomery Township, Owen, Indiana, United States in 1850. He died on 16 October 1855, in Fayette, Illinois, United States, at the age of 61, and was buried in Clark Cemetery, Oconee, Shelby, Illinois, United States.

1796 · Wilderness Road Opens to Wagons

In 1796, the Wilderness Road opened up for wagon use. The route was used by colonial and early settlers to reach Kentucky from the East. It started in Virginia, and went southward to Tennessee and then went north to Kentucky. The main danger of this route was Native American attacks.

1800 · Movement to Washington D.C.

While the growth of the new nation was exponential, the United States didn’t have permanent location to house the Government. The First capital was temporary in New York City but by the second term of George Washington the Capital moved to Philadelphia for the following 10 years. Ultimately during the Presidency of John Adams, the Capital found a permanent home in the District of Columbia.

History: This is the name of a well-established New England family. Its members include Josiah Bartlett (1729–95), who was born in Amesbury, MA, and became governor of NH (1790–94). A Richard Bartlet(t) settled in Newbury, MA, in 1635.
