George Powell was born on 8 March 1843, in Beaufort, Monmouthshire, Wales, United Kingdom. He married Isabella Penman Thompson in 1871, in Pennsylvania, United States. They were the parents of at least 6 sons and 4 daughters. He immigrated to United States in 1859 and lived in Williamstown, Dauphin, Pennsylvania, United States in 1880 and Good Spring, Porter Township, Schuylkill, Pennsylvania, United States in 1900. He died on 11 March 1915, in Tower City, Schuylkill, Pennsylvania, United States, at the age of 72, and was buried in Greenwood Cemetery, Tower City, Schuylkill, Pennsylvania, United States.
