He married Lucy Coleman Graves on 24 October 1837, in Fayette, Kentucky, United States. They were the parents of at least 2 sons and 2 daughters. He died on 14 February 1863, at the age of 46.

History: This name was brought independently to New England by many bearers from the 17th century onward. William Goodwin was one of the founders of Hartford, CT, in 1635 (coming from Cambridge, MA with Thomas Hooker).
