When Mette Thomasdatter was born in 1750, her father, Thomas Yde Jensen, was 41 and her mother, Anne Sørensen Sommer, was 31. She married Lars Nielsen on 23 May 1784. She died on 5 June 1785, in Sønder Tranders, Fleskum, Ålborg, Denmark, at the age of 35.

1762 · Old City Hall (Aalborg)

The Old City Hall was built in 1762 and served as the city hall until 1912. the Hall was modelled after the City Hall that was destroyed in the Copenhagen Fire in 1795. Today the building is used only for ceremonial and representative purposes.

1776 · Kongens Klub

The club was founded in 1776 by former members of Drejer's Club. It was initially known as Fich's Club. The latter name was a reference to Gottlieb Schreck who had purchased the House in 1775. He had adapted the interior to be used by the club. The club initially had 25 members but in 1778 the number of members had grown to 80. On 16 November 1782, the club was granted permission to use the name Kongens Klub (Royal Club). The club soon became a meeting place for members of the higher middle class.

Name Meaning

An extremely common given name from the Middle Ages onwards, derived via Old French Marguerite and Latin Margarita from Greek Margarītēs, from margaron ‘pearl’, a word ultimately of Hebrew origin. The name was always understood to mean ‘pearl’ throughout the Middle Ages. The first St Margaret was martyred at Antioch in Pisidia during the persecution instigated by the Emperor Diocletian in the early 4th century. However, there is some doubt about her name, as the same saint is venerated in the Orthodox Church as Marina . There were several other saintly bearers of the name, including St Margaret of Scotland ( d. 1093 ), wife of King Malcolm Canmore and daughter of Edmund Ironside of England. It was also the name of the wife of Henry VI of England, Margaret of Anjou ( 1430–82 ), and of Margaret Tudor ( 1489–1541 ), sister of Henry VIII , who married James IV of Scotland and ruled as regent there after his death.
