Brief Life History of Tule

When Tule was born about 1860, in Nukunuku, Tongatapu, Tonga, her father, Fifua Fala'Afa, was 25 and her mother, Asena, was 19. She married Manase Moala in 1884, in Nuku'alofa, Tongatapu, Tonga. They were the parents of at least 2 sons and 1 daughter. She died in 1893, in her hometown, at the age of 34, and was buried in Nukunuku, Tongatapu, Tonga.

    Name Meaning

    Hispanic or Amerindian (Mexico): from Mexican Spanish tule ‘cat-tail reed’, a word of Nahuatl (Aztec) origin.

    Americanized form of Slovenian Tul: probably a nickname or a metonymic occupational name from tul ‘(small) tube’, also ‘eye of an axe’.

    Bosniak: unexplained.
