When Eunice Votaw was born on 29 October 1806, in Monongalia, Virginia, United States, her father, Daniel Votaw, was 23 and her mother, Mary Hampton, was 18. She married Samuel Bishop on 9 February 1824, in Randolph, Indiana, United States. They were the parents of at least 5 sons and 2 daughters. She lived in Marion Township, Lee, Iowa, United States in 1860 and Modoc, California, United States in 1880. She died on 23 October 1889, in Springville, Linn, Iowa, United States, at the age of 82, and was buried in Springville, Linn, Iowa, United States.

Atlantic slave trade abolished.

1812 · Monumental Church Built

The Monumental Church was built between 1812-1814 on the sight where the Richmond Theatre fire had taken place. It is a monument to those that died in the fire.

1830 · The Second Great Awakening

Being a second spiritual and religious awakening, like the First Great Awakening, many Churches began to spring up from other denominations. Many people began to rapidly join the Baptist and Methodist congregations. Many converts to these religions believed that the Awakening was the precursor of a new millennial age.

Name Meaning

Altered form of French Vauteau: possibly a derivative of the personal name Vautier . The surname Vauteau has apparently died out in France. Compare Voter .

History: The Votaws trace their origin to Isaac Vauteau from France, who in the 1680s immigrated to England and later settled in Ireland. During the 18th century some of his children and grandchildren emigrated from Ireland to the US.
