When Elizabeth McCarthy was born on 19 December 1859, in Cleveland, Cuyahoga, Ohio, United States, her father, Daniel C McCarthy, was 28 and her mother, Elizabeth Kennedy, was 22. She married James Riley Moon on 21 October 1879, in Cazenovia, Richland, Wisconsin, United States. They were the parents of at least 6 sons and 8 daughters. She lived in Red Deer, Alberta, Northwest Territories, Canada in 1911 and Alberta, Canada in 1916. She died on 24 October 1945, in Orange, California, United States, at the age of 85, and was buried in Oceanview Cemetery, Oceanside, San Diego, California, United States.

1860 · Perry Monument on Public Square

The Perry Monument was erected at the center of Public Square to commemorate the victory of the Battle of Lake Erie by Oliver Hazard Perry. It was Ohio's first monumental sculpture. It has since been moved to Fort Huntington Park.

Abraham Lincoln issues Emancipation Proclamation, declaring slaves in Confederate states to be free.

1882 · The Chinese Exclusion Act

A federal law prohibiting all immigration of Chinese laborers. The Act was the first law to prevent all members of a national group from immigrating to the United States.
