When Evelina Doty was born in 1796, in Caroline, Tompkins, New York, United States, her father, Ellis Ball Doty, was 27 and her mother, Rachel Chase, was 32. She married David Paine Jr. about 1819. They were the parents of at least 3 sons and 6 daughters. She died on 3 May 1846, in her hometown, at the age of 50, and was buried in Caroline Grove Cemetery, Caroline, Tompkins, New York, United States.

While the growth of the new nation was exponential, the United States didn’t have permanent location to house the Government. The First capital was temporary in New York City but by the second term of George Washington the Capital moved to Philadelphia for the following 10 years. Ultimately during the Presidency of John Adams, the Capital found a permanent home in the District of Columbia.

History: Edward Doty (c. 1600–55) was one of the passengers on the Mayflower, a servant of Stephen Hopkins. He became comparatively wealthy and moved to Duxbury MA, where he left nine children.
