1808 · City of Ste. Genevieve

The city of Ste. Genevieve was incorporated on June 18, 1808. The city was founded in 1735 by French Canadian colonists and is Missouri’s oldest town. Ste. Genevieve was also the location of the first organized European settlement west of the Mississippi River.

1820 · Making States Equal

The Missouri Compromise helped provide the entrance of Maine as a free state and Missouri as a slave state into the United States. As part of the compromise, slavery was prohibited north of the 36°30′ parallel, excluding Missouri.
