When Vika Mafile'o Mataele was born about 1897, in Tonga, her father, Sosaia Mataele Ha'amea, was 19 and her mother, Soselina Na'uli, was 20. She married Tahi Saulala on 12 May 1920. They were the parents of at least 4 sons and 4 daughters. She died in 1965, at the age of 69, and was buried in Pea, Tongatapu, Tonga.
