He married Nancy Ashley on 10 January 1870, in Jefferson, Ashe, North Carolina, United States. They were the parents of at least 5 sons and 1 daughter. He lived in Winters, Yolo, California, United States in 1910 and Cozad, Dawson, Nebraska, United States in 1920. He died on 1 February 1929, at the age of 80, and was buried in Oconto, Custer, Nebraska, United States.
