He died on 25 April 1928, in Sioux City, Woodbury, Iowa, United States, at the age of 82, and was buried in Littleton Cemetery, Littleton Township, Schuyler, Illinois, United States.

After a special session of Congress, the Articles of Impeachment were approved by the House and then the Senate. Making Andrew Johnson the first President to be Impeached.
