The colonies were no longer under British rule. Many who fought for the British fled to Canada, the West Indies, and some to England."

Name Meaning

English (Suffolk and Norfolk): from the Middle English personal names Baldri(c) and Baldrich. The first is usually from ancient Germanic Baldric, which was common in the French forms Baldri and Baudri. The second represents the cognate Old English name Bealdrīc, formed from beald ‘bold, brave’ + rīc ‘ruler’, which is attested in Middle English forms such as Belrich, Balrich, Baltriht, and Baldrich.
