John Leonard Ellmaker was born on 21 December 1697, in Nuremberg, Bavaria as the son of Elias Ellmaker and Mary Magdalena Bremer Oelmacher. He married Anna Margretha Hornberger on 6 May 1726, in Frankenthal, Bautzen, Saxony, Germany. They were the parents of at least 6 sons and 3 daughters. He died on 1 May 1782, in Earl Township, Lancaster, Pennsylvania, United States, at the age of 84, and was buried in Earl Township, Lancaster, Pennsylvania, United States.
