When Clara Belle Judd was born in January 1868, in Indiana, United States, her father, Lewis Judd, was 55 and her mother, Elizabeth Meeks, was 44. She married James Murphy Meeks on 25 August 1887, in Frankfort, Center Township, Clinton, Indiana, United States. They were the parents of at least 3 sons and 4 daughters. She lived in Danville, Vermilion, Illinois, United States for about 20 years and Decatur Township, Macon, Illinois, United States in 1940. She died in 1957, at the age of 89.

The Chicago River Canal was built as a sewage treatment scheme to help the city's drinking water not to get contaminated. While the Canal was being constructed the Chicago River's flow was reversed so it could be treated before draining back out into Lake Michigan.
