He died on 4 May 1902, in Kellerton, Ringgold, Iowa, United States, at the age of 73, and was buried in Merritt Cemetery, Wanamaker, Ringgold, Iowa, United States.

1830 · The Second Great Awakening

Being a second spiritual and religious awakening, like the First Great Awakening, many Churches began to spring up from other denominations. Many people began to rapidly join the Baptist and Methodist congregations. Many converts to these religions believed that the Awakening was the precursor of a new millennial age.

1836 · Kirtland Temple Dedicated

On March 27, 1836, the Kirtland Temple was dedicated.

1857 · The State Capital moves to Des Moines

The Capitol was located in Iowa City until the 1st General Assembly of Iowa recognized that the Capitol should be moved farther west than Iowa City. Land was found two miles from the Des Moines River to start construction of the new building. Today the Capitol building still stands on its original plot.
