When Joseph Grob was born on 13 February 1622, in Hemberg, Sankt Gallen, Switzerland, his father, Heinrich Grob, was 37 and his mother, Elsbeth Nef, was 35. He married Cathrina Brunner on 5 May 1658, in Ebnat, Sankt Gallen, Switzerland. They were the parents of at least 3 sons and 6 daughters. He died in February 1693, in Ebnat, Sankt Gallen, Switzerland, at the age of 71.
