He married Ann Thornton in 1808, in Ireland. They were the parents of at least 7 sons and 7 daughters. He died on 3 March 1842, in Salaberry-de-Valleyfield, Beauharnois-Salaberry, Quebec, Canada, at the age of 62, and was buried in Ormstown, Châteauguay, Quebec, Canada.
