He married Lois Kelsey in August 1789, in Stockbridge, Berkshire, Massachusetts, United States. They were the parents of at least 3 sons and 8 daughters. He died on 26 October 1808, in Alfred, Allegany, New York, United States, at the age of 41.

Irish: sometimes adopted for Ó hUiscín; see Haskin . More probably, however, it is an altered form of a diminutive of Fuarghus, a personal name meaning ‘cold vigor’.
