When Peter Sommer was born on 9 July 1780, in Lauperswil, Bern, Switzerland, his father, Peter Sommer, was 30 and his mother, Anna Willi, was 27. He married Anna Jakob on 22 September 1805, in Langnau im Emmental, Bern, Switzerland. They were the parents of at least 3 sons and 5 daughters. He died on 29 December 1859, at the age of 79, and was buried in Signau, Bern, Switzerland.
