When Joseph Hull was born on 5 February 1735, in Jamestown, Newport, Rhode Island, British Colonial America, his father, Capt. John Hull, was 42 and his mother, Damaris Arnold Cary, was 28. He married Phebe Palmer on 20 January 1762. They were the parents of at least 5 sons and 3 daughters. He died on 8 May 1795, at the age of 60, and was buried in New York City, New York County, New York, United States.

1763 · First Synagogue in America
The first Jewish Synagogue in America was built in Newport, Rhode Island in 1763. It still stands today, making it the oldest synagogue in the United States.

On June 9, 1772, colonists that are angry with the trade restrictions that Britain put them under, board the HMS Gaspee and set it ablaze. This was the first act of violence against the British on the North American continent.

English: from the Middle English personal name Hulle, a pet form of Hugh or of its common diminutives Hulin, Hulot (see Hewlett and Huling ).
English: in southwest England and the west and central Midlands sometimes a topographical or habitational name for someone who lived on or by a hill (Middle English atte hulle, from Old English hyll), or from a place with this name. However, this word and the derived names will have usually assumed the standard form Hill in modern times, as in the case of Hill (Gloucestershire), which was usually spelt Hull or Hulle during the Middle Ages.
