When Huria Ami was born on 18 May 1896, in Bora-Bora, Îles Sous-le-vent, French Polynesia, his father, Sam Sing AMI, was 24 and his mother, Teheaatua I Taputapuatea Tehea MAI, was 20. He married Ute Tauauupu Toomaru on 17 February 1917, in Papeete, Tahiti, French Polynesia. They were the parents of at least 1 son. He died on 8 December 1990, in his hometown, at the age of 94.
