When Friedrich Roethlisberger was born on 16 March 1832, in Langnau im Emmental, Bern, Switzerland, his father, Christian Röthlisberger, was 37 and his mother, Catharina Schenk, was 26. He married Anna Elisabeth Stauffer in 1872. He died on 5 June 1900, at the age of 68.
