When Johannes Schiltknecht was born on 28 December 1700, in Holzmannshaus, Münchwilen, Thurgau, Switzerland, his father, Andreas Schiltknecht, was 47 and his mother, Lisabetha Vetter, was 30. He married Eva Bruggmann on 29 June 1728, in Sirnach, Thurgau, Switzerland. They were the parents of at least 2 daughters. He died on 9 May 1746, in his hometown, at the age of 45, and was buried in Sirnach, Thurgau, Switzerland.
