When Johannes Frischknecht was born on 25 October 1808, in Schwellbrunn, Appenzell Ausserrhoden, Switzerland, his father, Johannes Frischknecht, was 22 and his mother, Anna Kathrin Suhner, was 20. He married Anna Elisabeth Nänni on 8 November 1831, in Herisau, Appenzell Ausserrhoden, Switzerland. They were the parents of at least 5 sons and 3 daughters. He died on 22 January 1865, at the age of 56, and was buried in Schwellbrunn, Appenzell Ausserrhoden, Switzerland.
