He married Katharina Tribelhorn on 25 June 1784, in Waldstatt, Appenzell Ausserrhoden, Switzerland. They were the parents of at least 2 sons and 2 daughters. He died on 29 August 1833, in Herisau, Appenzell Ausserrhoden, Switzerland, at the age of 73.
