When Ardalia Townsend was born on 25 October 1797, in New York, United States, his father, General James Townsend, was 41 and his mother, Priscilla Ann Cole, was 42. He married Neurissa Cole on 9 September 1819. They were the parents of at least 1 son and 1 daughter. He died on 29 October 1821, at the age of 24, and was buried in Carmel, Putnam, New York, United States.

The First capital was temporary in New York City but by the second term of George Washington the Capital moved to Philadelphia for the following 10 years. Ultimately during the Presidency of John Adams, the Capital found a permanent home in the District of Columbia.
