When Isaac Lemuel Gillespie Strickland was born on 3 July 1809, in Livingston, Kentucky, United States, his father, James Drayton Strickland, was 33 and his mother, Mary Ann Gillespie, was 30. He died on 2 July 1839, at the age of 29, and was buried in Brazoria, Republic of Texas.

During the New Madrid earthquakes of 1811-1812, the Kentucky Bend or New Madrid Bend was created. It is located in the southwestern corner of Kentucky on the banks of the Mississippi River.
1818 · Jackson Purchase
The western part of Kentucky purchased by Andrew Jackson from the Chickasaw Indians in 1818. It became known as the Jackson Purchase. This included land that wasn't originally part of Kentucky when it became a state.

English (Lancashire and Yorkshire): habitational name from Great and Little Strickland (Westmorland) or Strickland Ketel and Strickland Roger (also Westmorland). The placenames derive from Old English stīrc ‘stirk, young bullock or heifer’ + land ‘land’.
