When Cathrine Nielsdatter was born in 1769, her father, Niels Olsen Grytten, was 45 and her mother, Catrine Clausdatter Bionnoen, was 41. She married Niels Knudsen on 13 June 1790, in Vatne, Møre og Romsdal, Norway. They were the parents of at least 2 sons and 5 daughters. She died in 1857, at the age of 88.

Royal order issued by the King of Norway and Denmark in 1810 required everyone to have a certificate of smallpox vaccination. This was also recorded in the Church records. 33

Constitution declared Norway to be an independent kingdom to avoid being ceded to Sweden from Denmark. Celebrated by Norwegians & Norwegian-Americans on May 17th each year.
