History: It was Louis-Dominique Charette from Paris, France, who created his new surname from the beginning of his own surname and the ending of the maiden name of his wife, Catherine Vaucheré (or Vaucherey, Vaucherez). They married in St. Landry Parish, LA, c. 1787.
