He married Anne Christine Hansdatter Melby on 29 April 1861, in Skedsmo Kirke, Skedsmo, Akershus, Norway. They were the parents of at least 4 sons. He lived in Skedsmo, Akershus, Norway in 1830 and Ström, Jämtland, Sweden for about 10 years. He died in 1906, in Horten, Vestfold, Norway, at the age of 76.
