When Anna Barbara Reimensberger was born on 13 December 1772, in Lütisburg, Sankt Gallen, Switzerland, her father, Ulrich Rimensberger, was 50 and her mother, Anna Barbara Grob, was 26. She married Johannes Frei on 1 May 1798, in St. Gallen, Sankt Gallen, Switzerland. They were the parents of at least 5 sons and 4 daughters. She died on 10 May 1818, at the age of 45, and was buried in Lütisburg, Sankt Gallen, Switzerland.

Among people with a classical education, it has from time to time been associated with Virgil's Aeneid, where it is borne by the sister of Dido , Queen of Carthage.
