When Robert Mayo was born on 16 August 1738, in Middlesex, Virginia, British Colonial America, his father, James William Mayo, was 26 and his mother, Martha Ann Williamson, was 20. He married Margaret Mary Richardson on 2 January 1768, in Goochland, Virginia, United States. They were the parents of at least 5 sons and 4 daughters. He died in 1823, in Chester, Chester, South Carolina, United States, at the age of 85.
